How I work

Through my own range of very diverse experiences as a therapy client, I truly understand how it is to sit in that chair. My intention is to offer and draw froward from the client the knowledge and wisdom that can be truly life changing.

I bring depth and insight to my work with clients, drawn from a lifetime of personal and professional engagement in contemplative practices.  My pragmatic approach helps clients move towards their therapeutic goals with confidence and a sense of hope.

I use a variety of methods with clients, including:

Working with the mind to build clarity and gain insight into your patterns of thinking and emotional responses. We identify obstructions and adaptations to change in your life so far. We can then reshape thinking that supports a growth mindset.

– If your body tells you there is a problem, the mind isn’t always going to come on board in a helpful way. So we might apply tools of mindfulness, relaxation and breathing techniques to raise your awareness of sensations, regulate the nervous system and work with anxiety. These tools are helpful for working with unprocessed distress or impacts of traumatic events.

Creative arts therapies. It is amazing what a colourful childlike doodle can reveal. This approach takes you out of your head and into a more playful and left brain mode of exploration.

I bring a quiet yet tenacious presence to the therapeutic space. I have many years experience in spiritual care, where I have supported people in their challenging health journeys with oncology and cancer care.

We only have an hour together a week so I do encourage clients to do some reflection work in between sessions (it’s the educator in me too!). I offer resources in the form of handouts, links to useful video and podcasts, and book titles you might like to read. Reflection could be journalling, drawing, creative activities or just taking unstructured time out to integrate our work from sessions.

Bega Valley has a fantastic network of allied health professionals I can refer you to. These are therapies that will offer care and nurturance during therapy.
